Free cinema is the name of the day on May Day Bank Holiday as Brick Lane goes movie crazy. There will be an astonishing amount of movies being shown throughout the day, including a few choice Latin numbers, at a ridiculous number of venues. Best of all, it’s all free!
Movie MayDay is part of the East End Film Festival. If you want to see the full line-up for Movie MayDay click here. If you’d like to see the full programme for the East End Film Festival click here. These are the Latin American highlights from the day:
The Rag Factory, 37 Heneage St
12.00pm – 2.00pm
A rare opportunity to see last year’s award-winning documentary Presumed Guilty by Geoffrey Smith, an account of one man’s battle for truth in the face of endemic corruption in the Mexican justice system.
Vision & Verse (feat. Pablo Neruda)
4.00pm – 8.00pm
Poet Jan Noble of Not your Average Type presents Vision & Verse, a poetry inspired collection that highlights filmmakers, poets and composers who discard ‘representational straitjackets’ and liberate the word from the page. Chronicling the avant-garde of the 1920’s & 30’s, and the underground poetry explosion of the mid 1960s, and presenting a stunning new film on Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda, the afternoon concludes with a live musical performance from McKevitt & Noble, in which film and poetry composer Donna McKevitt showcases her new work.
Land In Focus
Loco Mojito Mexican, 192 Brick Lane
Land in Focus will be selecting a few classic Latinamerican films at Loco Mojito Mexican during the day.
