Win tickets to a special La Linea show

This April La Línea Music Festival returns for its latest edition with a mighty line-up. It will bring a wide and eclectic selection of Latin acts to iconic venues in London.

There will be a otal of nine gigs over two weeks, showcasing from hip-hop to classical sounds. Both the Wend End and the East End are ready to shake.

A Curva da Cintura kicks off the festival on the 12th at the intimate Union Chapel with a performance that combines rock ‘n’ roll, African roots and blues. This collaboration came about after the artists met at at Back2Black music festival in Rio de Janeiro in 2010. The legendary Brazilian singer and composer Arnaldo Antunes will be present rock songs and ballads, while African Toumani Diabaté and kora (African harp) will feature with Edgard Scandurra’s Brazilian guitar.

Another one not to be missed is a two heavyweight brass bands encounter at the Barbican stage on the 14th. A joyful musical session by Mexican Estrellas de Sinaloa de German Lizarraga and the Gypsy brass kings of the Balkans, Boban & Marko.

Fado singer Ana Moura will play on April 18th at the Barbican Her magical voice and intrinsicate harmonies are part of her her new album Desfado, which branches out outside the Fado remit. It is written by Herbie Hancock and produced by Larry Klein.

Meanwhile, contemporary flamenco star and Grammy winner Buika is back to London with her raw and smoky voice. After four years, the Spanish/Guinean singer brings her strong melodies with influences from jazz, blues and African music to the special Union Chapel atmosphere.

Other acts include Alexander Abreu y Havana D’ Primera (12th), Latin hip-hop flavour with Mala Rodriguez (18th) and La Raza (19th), Marcelo Bratke piano Bach & Bachianas (24th) and Meridian Brothers (25th).

The festival runs until April 25.
