Tulipa’s London debut at Momo
It was only two years ago that Tulipa Ruiz performed her first solo concert and less than a year since she released her debut album Efêmera. That album was voted the Best Brazilian Album of 2010 by Rolling Stone Brasil…
Now, one of her songs has been featured on the new FIFA 2011 football game and her album was released in Europe this February. Tulipa’s star is most certainly on the rise! This March she will performing at Momo’s as part of a short European sojourn.
The formula for Tulipa’s success is simple: she writes charming, intelligent songs about the minutiae details of everyday life. Not to mention the fact that she can sing. With influences as diverse as Joni Mitchell, Yoko Ono and Baby Consuelo (from the legendary Os Novos Baianos) her style is perhaps more in tune with the French chanteuse tradition than the MPB and samba singers from Brazil.
Tulipa will be performing her first UK concert at Momo’s as a guitar/vocal duo. The best news, of course, is that it’s free. That’s right, one of the new stars of a buzzing music scene in Brazil for the grand price of nada. Things can’t get better than that!
