The World Ends: Afro Rock & Psychedelia in 1970s Nigeria
The World Ends is a fine start for those who want good music for the ears, and the feet. The release comes fresh from Soundway and bears vibrant tracks, evidently carrying influences from the likes of Jimi Hendrix, James Brown and Santana.
The old school Afro-rock album has strong style and personality, after all it’s the sound of a generation trying to pick up the pieces following the devastation of the Nigerian civil war, and without a doubt it captures and reproduced this revolutionary energy of that era. With the bass and vocals of Wrinkars Experience on ‘Soundway’, or the guitar and brass on ‘Mr. Bull Dog’ and ‘Babalawo’, it’s pretty tough not to move your body. And boasting 32 tracks of electrifying funk full of irreverent youth, this double CD is a fine purchase.
