Take The Big Chill Pill This August

There’s always something a little bit special about the Big Chill. It’s obviously got a great location at Eastnor Castle, but it’s the line-up which always shines brightest. This year alongside such big names as Kanye West, Janelle Monae and Calvin Harris, are an assortment of great African bands with the odd Latin group dotted about too!

It’s fair to say that some of the finest African bands around will be playing the Big Chill this year with Konono No 1‘s frenzied congotronics appearing on the Friday, Buraka Som Sistema and their mashing up of kuduro beats on the Saturday, where there will also be South African poetry/rapping from Spoek Mathambo and 70s afrobeat from Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra. The Sunday will bring ethio-jazz legend Mulatu Astatke to the stage, as well as Femi Kuti‘s Nigerian afro-funk group the Postitive Force.

Representing the Latin spirit are the tropical tour-de-force Quantic y su Combo Barbaro, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and the Global Local stage on Saturday night which will feature a number of acts from Movimientos’ roster.
