Come celebrate 8 years with Jungle

One big anniversary, one Book Club, and we’ll be painting it read…

You don’t need no library card, but birthday cards, they’ll be warmly received; there’ll be no late returns, just many happy returns; and there’s no exclusivity to this club of ours – with arms wide open, Jungle simply wants to mark this epic moment on November 25th with our nearest and dearest all around.

We can’t get our heads round it either, but yes it has really been 8 years that we’ve been printing this here monthly magazine, showcasing all the coolest Brasilian and Latin American culture in the UK, and that calls for a huge send off. But puns aside, we want to see our dear readers, subscribers, collaborators, partners and friends, all in one place, all having fun.

Introspective as this time is for Jungle, we’ve been pondering the past, present and future a great deal. And picking out one of our favourite new bars in East London, we’ve summoned our old pal DJ Cliffy to get the party started, who himself has been busy rounding up all the sounds under the sun back in Brasil. And if you didn’t get to see our newfound friends (see below) opening Adriana Calcanhotto’s gig at the Union Chapel, you can catch the young Fran & Josh laying down some frenetic acoustic flamenco in the basement.

And could any JD party truly be complete without the king of mashups, the ever-faithful João Brasil? Nope, in a Brasil nutshell. So the soundtrack’s in place, the guests have all been invited, all that remains is that we do Jungle justice. See you there!

What’s in store on the night?

Fran & Josh
…met about six years ago and have been making music together ever since – an acoustic upbeat kind of flamenco. In the last six months the duo turned into a trio, with the addition of Matt, Josh’s drummer of a brother. Describing their sound, they call themselves an acoustic dance band with flamenco-y vibes and a punk feeling. Confused? You won’t be after their performance, their first to a mainly Brasilian and Latin audience. “For Adriana [Calcanhotto] we were a bit nervous because of the formality of the place, everyone sitting down. Now, we’re really excited to get people dancing, the fun of it is what we’re all about”, says Josh.

DJ Cliffy
Kicking the night off we’ll have our old Batmacumba buddy DJ Cliffy, who’s been spending ever more time in Brazil rounding up all the sounds under the sun, which he’ll be spinning a beautiful blend of on the night.

João Brasil
And of course no JD party would be complete without the almighty João Brasil, armed with his baile funk samples and mashups to fire up the crowd through until the early hours!

Top 3 Reasons
to come and party with us:-

Last dance – winding up yet another fun year of JD events and gigs, this marks the last of our parties for 2010, so let your hair down drag your friends along and let’s do JD’s 8th anniversary justice.

Fatboy Slim – is not likely to drop in, but his favourite Brasilian DJ as he recently revealed, the illustrious João Brasil, will be taking the party into the early hours of the night with his trademark mashups and baile funk antic.

Ping pong – forget the Book Club’s smooth décor and ambient chill out spots, for heaven’s sake there’s a ping pong table upstairs, mighty fine for settling any disputes, plus a pool table downstairs!

It’s gonna be a massive night. We’re all going to be there, and we’ll look forward to seeing you there too!
