Hermeto Pascoal @ London Jazz Festival
Legendary Brazilian musician Hermeto Pascoal is coming to the capital as part of the London Jazz Festival’s 2011 lineup. Pascoal has worked with everyone from Miles Davis to Elis Regina to Airto Moreira and is quite rightly heralded as one of the most inventive musicians ever to come from Brazil.
The performance will be in celebration of Pascoal’s 75th birthday and he will be joined by both his Brazilian band and a group of British musicians that he formed back in the 90s. If you’ve never seen Hermeto Pascoal play live then you really should come to this show. Pascoal is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who dashes from instrument to instrument on-stage as his compositions weave in unusual and intoxicating patterns. Never has the title of “musical visionary” been more appropriate.
Pascoal will be joined by Rio’s Hamilton de Holanda, an artist who has revolutionised the bandolim – the emblematic instrument of choro – bringing a contagious enthusiasm to his flawless playing.
